Charlize Theron Wants The Troops Home From Iraq

Charlize Theron Wants The Troops Home From Iraq

In the past, some Hollywood heavyweights have felt the need to voice their opinion in regards to current political events. Charlize Theron is the latest star to walk the volatile line by calling for the removal of US troops in Iraq.

The Oscar-winning actress spoke at the Venice Film Festival, where her latest film, In The Valley of Elah, is in competition. Co-starring Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones, the film is based on the true story of a soldier who went missing on his first weekend back from serving in Iraq. Theron plays Emily Sanders, the detective leading the investigation into the disappearance of the soldier.

At the festival, Charlize told press, ““Nothing would give me more joy than to see them (the troops) back in America. They are doing a very, very important job and it’s a dangerous one. Hopefully they can come back and be looked after, that’s the least we can do for them.”

In addition to calling for US troops to leave Iraq, the Monster actress warned the American people to open their eyes to the conflict in Iraq and other regions around the world.

“In a way it’s really strange now living in America. I realize my generation has kind of slacked a little bit ... I don’t know how people get through their lives not knowing. I can’t imagine going through my life like that.”
