Prince Harry splits up with girlfriend: Report

LONDON: Prince Harry and his girlfriend Chelsy Davy have split up after the young royal missed her 22nd birthday party to attend the rugby union World Cup final, the News of the World reported on Sunday.

The weekly quoted unnamed "friends" of Davy, who is a law student in Leeds, northern England, as saying she became sick of the 23-year-old army officer's boozy antics and lack of commitment.

She reportedly ended the relationship in a series of emotional telephone calls earlier this month between Leeds and Lesotho, where Harry was meeting AIDS orphans being cared for by the charity he set up.

Royal officials refused to comment on the prince's private life.

Harry was pictured with his older brother Prince William, 25, and friends in the crowd at the Stade de France in Paris on October 20 to watch England's defeat to South Africa.

In a separate report, the Mail on Sunday claimed Harry, a second lieutenant in the Blues and Royals regiment of the Household Cavalry, was "ready to quit" the army unless he was sent to Afghanistan with his squadron.

In May, military top brass refused to send him to Iraq because of fears he could become a target for extremists.

The defence ministry was quoted as saying they never discussed Harry's location or future deployments, while royal officials maintained he was "committed" to his army career.

The newspaper also carried a picture of him in a car with a "mystery brunette" he allegedly spent an hour chatting to in an upmarket west London nightclub on Friday night.
